Periodontology
Periodontal diseases are inflammatory diseases that affect the gums and other tissues supporting the teeth. When diagnosed early, these diseases can be treated easily and successfully.
Although gum disease affects the majority of our population, it is a disease about which little is known regarding its causes, consequences, and treatment, and it progresses insidiously. Prevention or treatment of gum diseases brings benefits such as preserving natural teeth, easier chewing, and better digestion.
Healthy gums have a slightly rough texture like orange peel, a smooth borderline with the tooth, and a pink appearance. Healthy gums do not bleed while brushing or eating.
Periodontal diseases begin with gum inflammation (gingivitis). In the early stages, it may not cause much discomfort. If left untreated, the disease can progress to periodontitis, causing irreversible damage to the gums and alveolar bone supporting the teeth.
