Orthodontics is a special branch of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of irregularities in teeth and face. Irregular or "bad" bite, called malocclusion, can be corrected with orthodontic treatment.

Why Do Teeth Become Crooked?

When tooth sizes are not compatible with jaw size, teeth align crookedly or with spaces to fit in the jaw. In such dental and skeletal disorders, orthodontic treatment is applied to bring teeth back to their proper alignment.

Is There an Age Limit for Orthodontic Treatment?

There is no age limit for treating dental crowding alone. It can be treated at any age. However, treatment of skeletal disorders such as protruding or receding jaws should be done before age 12. At later ages, this treatment becomes much more difficult. We still recommend our patients have an orthodontic examination before age 7.
